When Air Force One is shot out of the sky, the U.S. President and U.K. Prime Minister are forced into an unlikely partnership. Former movie star-turned-president Will Derringer (John Cena) and career politician Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) have nothing in common—except that they’re being hunted by a ruthless adversary and cut off from their governments.
With MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) as their only ally, the pair must survive on the run and stop a global conspiracy before it's too late. Heads of State, the latest action-comedy blockbuster, stream exclusively on Prime Video starting July 2.
Heads of State is directed by Ilya Naishuller (Nobody) and written by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec and Harrison Query, from a story by Query. The film also stars Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle, and Paddy Considine.
“The number one reason I wanted to do this film was I really like working with John Cena,” said Idris Elba. “John is a consummate professional and one of those very multitalented people who can do so many different things well. He perfectly layered that sort of fish out of water who can look quite presidential and be a bad arse at the same time.”
“I really enjoy the way Idris works,” said John Cena. “I think we have a different dynamic, but we complement each other very well. And anytime I get a chance to work with people that can make me better but are also like-minded in the sense of professionalism I’m in. He is not only a great actor, he’s also a great human being.”
From a tomato-splattered street festival in France to high-speed car chases in Italy, the film spans multiple countries, explosive action sequences, and relentless one-liners. Heads of State is an all-out spectacle grounded in the odd-couple chemistry of its two leads—who also served as executive producers alongside Marcus Viscidi, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and director Ilya Naishuller. Peter Safran, p.g.a. and John Rickard, p.g.a. are the movie's producers.
