Xiaomi Pad Mini: Unboxing and First Impressions

The Xiaomi Pad Mini has been getting a lot of buzz among Android fans for its impressive specs. We’ve looked forward to it as well, and after spending time with it for our review, it’s easily become one of our favorite devices this year.

In this article, let’s take a closer look at everything it comes with.

The tablet comes in Xiaomi’s standard minimalist white box — quite different from the colorful, eye-catching packaging of the REDMI lineup.

Inside, you’ll find:

The Xiaomi Pad Mini itself, manual, a USB-C cable and charger

That’s about it.

However, Xiaomi is also included some bonus accessories with the package we received - a protective case with a holder and kickstand, plus the Xiaomi Smart Pen. I’m not entirely sure if this will be the exact retail bundle, but it does make sense since everything complements the Pad Mini really well.

The Xiaomi Pad Mini features an 8.8-inch display, making it a truly compact tablet that’s easy to hold in one hand. Much like the others in Xiaomi's Pad line up, the build quality of the Pad Mini feels premium with no creaky plastic feels all over. Just a solid, well-made tablet.

It’s designed to work seamlessly in both portrait and landscape orientations and this is evident on its port selection. You’ll find two USB-C ports: one at the bottom when in portrait mode, and another on the left when in landscape. This makes it convenient to charge the tablet no matter how you’re using it.

The Xiaomi Smart Pen attaches magnetically to the left side of the device, where it also charges. It’s a handy design so it won’t easily disappear in your bag, though it might still shake loose if it’s not secured well. Still, it’s a nice addition and definitely appreciated.

As for the display, the Xiaomi Pad Mini packs a 3K resolution on its 8.8-inch IPS panel. While it’s not OLED, it does offer a smooth 165Hz refresh rate, making everything from scrolling to gaming feel fluid and responsive.

You’ll also find speaker grilles on both sides when in landscape mode, giving you true stereo sound for watching videos or playing games.

Powering the device is the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9400+, which is really what sets this tablet apart from other mini tablets in its class. This performance is backed by a 7500mAh battery.
