Ricoh GR Monochrome inspires creativity at GR Philippines' boudoir workshop

GR Philippines recently held its "It's All About Monochrome 2" workshop at Studio J 2.0, bringing photographers together for an immersive session centered on boudoir maternity photography. Led by photographer Ruel Tafalla and featuring model Krizia Evans, the workshop encouraged participants to learn through hands-on experience rather than simply observing.

Learning through experience

Instead of watching from the sidelines, participants were given the opportunity to take full control of the creative process. They worked directly with lighting, backgrounds, composition, and model posing, allowing them to transform the images they envisioned into actual photographs.

The workshop followed a collaborative rotation, where each participant took turns shooting while others observed, exchanged ideas, and learned from different creative approaches. This interactive setup created an environment where every session became a shared learning experience.

The magic of monochrome with Ricoh GR

A key focus of the workshop was treating monochrome as an intentional artistic choice instead of a simple black-and-white filter applied in post-processing. Without color to rely on, photographers were challenged to pay closer attention to light, shadow, texture, contrast, and emotion.

The session demonstrated how the Ricoh GR Monochrome encourages photographers to simplify their vision. Rather than becoming a limitation, the absence of color pushes them to focus on storytelling and emotion, creating images where light and texture take center stage.

By stripping away distractions, photographers were encouraged to rely on their creative instincts and develop a stronger connection with their subjects. The experience showed that monochrome photography is not about having less to work with, but about seeing more in the details that often go unnoticed.

The workshop concluded with a supportive atmosphere where photographers openly shared ideas, observed each other's techniques, and gained confidence throughout the session. For many attendees, it was their first experience photographing boudoir, making the event not only an opportunity to explore monochrome photography but also to discover new creative possibilities.
